Just a reminder: 13 December Wednesday Run is the Christmas Pub Run ! [Read more…]

THINGS: 3 DECEMBER 2017

Ho Ho Ho! The Holidays are heading this way!

Ready or not it’s December. In this issue we’ve got lots of results but more importantly a list of all the OWR Holiday Happenings coming up over the next few weeks, so read on!

THING 1: INTO THE DEEP BLUE SEA

Kohi Swims are back every Thursday through the summer. A full tide and a bit of sun this last week but it still looked a bit prettier than it felt. Marion, Darilyn, Shelley, Doug, Katherine and Patti all headed out.

There are two more swims before the Christmas break, if you are keen on joining us.

THING 2: PEOPLE’S TRI AT MISSION BAY

It was a warm lovely day for the Tri and OWR had a number of folks doing the Sprint with some very good results, not the least of which was Doug was #1 in his Age Group.

THING 3: SATURDAYS AT MISSION BAY

Another lovely morning at Mission Bay, although the tides were mercurial and changed half way through the swim.

Where:       Mission Bay city-side carpark

When:        7:30 am

Post run/swim coffee:  ~9:00am at the Mission Bay Pavilion (formerly the Stone House) right next to the car park.

THING 4: WEDNESDAY RUNS FROM GRAMMAR CARLTON RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB

Summer Schedule on Wednesdays is at the Rugby Club venue. It’s on the Campbell Crescent edge of Cornwall Park. There is free parking and drinks afterwards will be at the Club upstairs.

We were having so much fun we forget to get pictures until most of the rest were gone. Cheers!

When:        Wednesdays, 5:30 PM

Where:  Grammar Carlton Rugby Football Club Inc

2 Puriri Dr, Epsom, Auckland 1051, New Zealand

As an option, there are a few still wanting to meet at St. Luke’s shopping centre – if that’s better for you, reach out to Brandon. You can reach out to me for contact details: katherinelester100@gmail.com

THING 5: TUESDAY TWILIGHT AT O’HAGANS RUNS

For those who want to pick up their running speed, the Tuesday runs at O’Hagan’s pub in the Viaduct could be just the thing. $7 for a 5km – long enough to get your pace up but short enough to push it.

Gun time is 6pm, so get there a bit early to register. Did we mention your $7 also gets you a free beer, wine or fruit juice???

And you get to hang with these finely tuned athletes…

HOLIDAY HAPPENINGS

HOLIDAY THING 1: CHRISTMAS PUB RUN

This year’s Pub Run is on Wednesday, 13 December. It will start and finish at Puriri Rugby Club. Run time is 5:30pm – don’t forget

  • Your Santa gear
  • Your cash / card for the run
  • Your safe ride home

This is the last Wednesday run until 10 January, so don’t miss out!

HOLIDAY THING 2: SATURDAYS AT MISSION BAY

Officially, we’ll continue to meet at 7:30am through 23 December. We’ll then take a holiday break, returning on 13 January.

HOLIDAY THING 3: CHRISTMAS MORNING AT MISSION BAY

Come spend Christmas morning with the people you really like before heading off to the fam.

Meet at 8:30am at Mission Bay City-side Car Park.

  • Run, walk or swim for an hour
  • Brunch at 9:30-9:45

We are getting mixed messages about whether the revamped Mission Bay Pavilion will be open; that will be preferred but otherwise likely to be Coffee Club.

WATCH THIS SPACE AS WE GET CLOSER TO THE DAY FOR THE UPDATE.

HOLIDAY THING 4: ANNUAL NEW YEAR’S EVE DAY RUN/WALK AND PICNIC

The annual New Year’s Eve Day run/walk and picnic will be at Shakespeare Park again this year.

EXERCISE

Meet at 8:30 am at Okoromai Bay. Thanks to Shelley for the instructions:

When you enter the park from the main road it is important to drive straight ahead to Okoromai Bay. At the “T” intersection turn left and drive to the end of the road. Here is our gathering spot.

If you drive through the predator proof fence you are in the WRONG PLACE!

We’ll be out 2 hours or so, so bring plenty of water.

PICNIC

We’ll have BBQs and condiments available – BYO sausages and nibbles to share.

While this isn’t the proper swimming beach it can be lovely for a dip. What to bring:

  • Running/walking clothing, sun hat, sunscreen and water
  • Sausages for yourself and snacks to share
  • Picnic beverage of your choice
  • Potential change of clothes for comfort
  • Swimming togs and towel (optional)

THING 6: UPCOMING BIRTHDAYS

Shelley celebrates on 13 December – hope it’s a good one!

THINGS Monday 25th September 17

Hello There

It has been awhile, but I am back – as guest editor while Katherine kicks her heels up in the UK.

Cornwall Park

How fabulous is Cornwall Park? It is beautiful any time of year but especially in Spring. A bunch of faithfuls turn up week after week. You too could be one of them….think about it.

Is that Benji photo bombing the bottom left? Note the holograms of our travelling friends looking on. They are wishing they were there too.

Tony Jackson Ironman Scholarship

There has been some fabulous news announced by Ironman NZ recently.

We are delighted to announce that the Tony Jackson Scholarship is opening for a second round of applicants for 2018.

We received a number of quality applications earlier this year (including winner Jason Young), so together with Verna Cook-Jackson we have decided to award a second scholarship for the 2018 event.

Interested? Then get your application in.

O’Hagan’s Run

THINGS EXTRA – O’REID ALL ABOUT IT

EXTRA ! EXTRA!

Helen and Brett, lovingly known as the O’Reido’s, are heading to Ireland for their OE, likely for several years on 24 May.

There is a farewell bash THIS SATURDAY night, 2o May, at Frieda Margoles in the Butcher’s – it’s at 413 Richmond Road. Meeting from 4pm onward – laughing, drinking, poetry, possibly singing – there will be Irish and Welsh there so I’m just warning you it could happen – and hopefully lots of good memories to send them on their way.

More later

Cheers

Clippy Chick

Thing 1: Wednesday – Picnic in the Park

The weather dried out for our picnic in the park. Pre-picnic exercise: the walkers did the usual jaunt around the park, but the runners headed out to Mount St. John’s (so we could include a stop at the Countdown to pick up condiments for the BBQ… we are a practical bunch). So we did climb a mountain! Just not the one we normally do.  [Read more…]
