THINGS: 24 December 2017

Here Here Here are the Holiday Happenings…..

The start time for both 25 and 31 December are the same: 8:30 am – BUT I strongly recommend you plan on arriving between 8-830 am to both events to ensure you get a car park. (And of course to say hello, get yourself sorted, etc)

HOLIDAY THING 1: CHRISTMAS MORNING AT MISSION BAY

Come spend Christmas morning with the people you really like!

December 25: Arrive between 8:00-8:30 am at Mission Bay City-side Car Park for an 8:30 am start.

  • Run, walk or swim for an hour
  • Brunch at 9:30-9:45 at the Coffee Club across the street.

Christmas themed gear is completely appropriate and strongly encouraged!

HOLIDAY THING 2: ANNUAL NEW YEAR’S EVE DAY RUN/WALK AND PICNIC

The annual New Year’s Eve Day run/walk and picnic will be at Shakespeare Park again this year.

December 31: Arrive between 8-8:30 am for an 8:30 am start at Okoromai Bay. Thanks to Shelley for the instructions:

When you enter the park from the main road it is important to drive straight ahead to Okoromai Bay. At the “T” intersection turn left and drive to the end of the road. Here is our gathering spot.

If you drive through the predator proof fence you are in the WRONG PLACE!

WHAT TO BRING FOR THE EXERCISE

  • Running/walking clothing, sun hat, sunscreen and water
  • Repeat for emphasis: Plenty of water ! We’ll be out a couple of hours and it will be hot!
  • Hat
  • Sunscreen

WHAT TO BRING FOR THE PICNIC

Thanks to Barb and Gary who have volunteered their BBQs and their cooking talents;

What we will provide:

  • White bread and butter
  • Condiments
  • Paper plates and napkins

What you need to bring:

  • BYO Sausages for yourself
  • BYO beverage and drinking glass
  • Optional nibbles to share while we wait for the sausages to cook
  • Anything else you perceive to be important for your picnic pleasure
  • Change of clothes for comfort
  • Picnic blanket and chair (optional)
  • Swimming togs and towel (optional)

Sub-THING A: Please note, that only sausages (of any meat or vegetarian) will be grilled as we will have a lot to fit on the barbecue and it’s easier for our volunteer chefs to manage the cooking if everything is roughly the same size. If you don’t want sausages bring a sandwich or something else not for grilling, for yourself.

Sub-THING B: While this isn’t the proper swimming beach it can be lovely for a dip.

Sub-THING C: The meeting spot has both sun and shade. We have a gazebo; if the day is a bit wet we will put that up for the comfort of the cooks and any others who fit under it 🙂

See you by the sea!
