Things Wednesday 31st May 2018

Hello Everyone

I hope you are all keeping warm during these beautiful crisp clear days.

Katherine is still over yonder wearing out her passport, so you have me, ETC, today.

Thing One: Where to this Saturday

A couple of weeks ago we agreed that we would return to Cornwall Park on Saturday mornings for the winter. However, there is some confusion in the ranks as to whether we are moving back to Cornwall Park this Saturday, on Queen’s Birthday weekend, or next week after Queen’s Birthday weekend.

So after consulting with many of you, I have made a decision. We will stay at Mission Bay this Saturday and move to Cornwall Park next Saturday.

Saturday 2nd June – Mission Bay

Saturday 9th June – Cornwall Park

The meeting point in Cornwall Park is by the flag pole accessed via the Greenlane Road entrance. Walkers and runners and in betweeners self organise and depart at 7:30 am. We will continue at Cornwall Park until about Labour Weekend. No doubt we will natter about that closer to the time.

Well, while I am here, perhaps I should cover off some results.

Thing Two: Rotorua Marathon

The number of OWRs heading down to Rotorua for the annual trot around the lake are dwindling a bit. However some stoic runners and walkers made it down, ably supported by Grannie Annie and Kirsteen, who mosyed over from Taupo.

Well done you stoic athletes. You are an inspiration to us all.

Thing Three: Xterra

A number of OWRs enjoyed the 2018 Xterra kick off event on the 27th May at Shakespear Park. All of our athletes opted for the Mid Distance of 10.5 km with a toughness factor of 7/10.

Well done you hardy young women. We might see some hardy men at the next event??

Why not enter the Waitawa Valley Event on Sunday 17th June. There are options available.

Thing Four: Master Swimming Champs

Charmayne had a busy weekend the 25th and 27th of May at the Master Swimming Champs. Charmayne netted 5 Gold medals in 50 backstroke, 100 Backstroke, 200 Backstroke, 50 Freestyle, and 200 Freestyle and a Bronze in the 100 Freestyle.

She also came first in two relays. In the Medley relay her team smashed the NZ record by 11 seconds, and in the Freestyle relay, her team smashed the NZ record by 25 seconds. Both previous records were set in 1996.

Nothing wrong with that haul of medals!

OK, it is a beautiful day out, and time for a walk.
